Exercises for the first two weeks after your ACL reconstruction

In the first two weeks after your ACL reconstruction you should perform simple exercises aimed at boosting circulation and keeping muscles working during this time. In that first fortnight you should aim to get your knee out of its splint around three to four times.

  1. the first exercise can be done be often and is aimed at boosting circulation. It involves basic foot flexes
  2. the second exercise is a simple heel slide bending the knee to a gentle 30 to 40 degrees
  3. the third exercise uses a rolled up towel beneath the knee for support, then contracting your thigh muscle for five seconds at a time.

After two weeks you should see your physio who will provide more formal exercises for your recovery moving forward. See more information about post-ACL recovery.
