Ben McIvor graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Otago, New Zealand, in 2006 and has been part of the Sportscare Kawana team since 2010. Ben has worked exclusively in private practice with a varied caseload covering manual therapy, gym-based rehabilitation and exercise prescription, sports team coverage and workplace/ergonomic assessments.
Ben has also worked with a variety of sports teams and codes, including three years with a National League basketball team in New Zealand, and as part of the physiotherapy team for the Sunshine Coast Falcons Q Cup team. In recent years Ben has developed an interest in chronic pain conditions such as Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). He has advanced his skills by completing further training in Graded Motor Imagery (GMI) which has been shown to be effective in the management of CRPS and other chronic conditions, and is used as an adjunct to more traditional forms of injury rehabilitation. Ben has also completed further education in the screening and management of Concussion and Post-Concussion Syndrome.
Ben’s treatment approach combines manual therapies where necessary, with appropriate exercise and movement prescription. Ben also places an emphasis on education to ensure the patient’s injury, recovery and day to day management strategies are understood as clearly as possible.
