5 PEAK CHALLENGE 2026: RAISING AWARENESS FOR HEAD AND NECK CANCER
July 13, 2026On Saturday 1st August one of our physiotherapists, Anna Bofinger, will be climbing 5 peaks on the Sunshine Coast for the fourth consecutive year to help raise awareness and to support the vital work of Head and Neck Cancer Australia.

Every year in Australia more than 5,500 people are newly diagnosed with head and neck cancer, and over 17,000 are living with the effects of treatment. It’s a complex, often misunderstood group of cancers – and one of the most under-funded.
In June 2020 I was shocked to be diagnosed with tongue cancer. I am grateful for the excellent medical care I have received since my diagnosis. However, my firsthand experience of the challenges faced as a patient, together with the debilitating effects of treatment, are my motivation for change.
There are no formal screening tests for Head and Neck Cancer. Otherwise healthy younger patients without the traditional risk factors (smoking and alcohol consumption) are being affected by these cancers. It is important to know the early warning signs and symptoms and speak with your doctor or dentist if symptoms persist for longer than 3 weeks. Seek a second opinion if your concerns are dismissed.
Head and Neck Cancer Australia is the only national charity dedicated to supporting people living with Head and Neck Cancer. This year marks the charity’s 10-year anniversary – a time to reflect on the difference it has made, continuing to raise public awareness, to provide up to date evidence-based education to health professionals, to support patients and their families, and to work for more equitable access to treatment.
Saturday 1st August will be a challenging day and tiring day, but it does not compare to the challenges patients face during their treatment, and often afterwards. 5 peaks, one day, over 10km of hiking. The day begins at Mt Tibberoowuccum and Mt Ngungun in the Glasshouse Mountains, followed by Mt Coolum, Mt Ninderry and finishes with the most challenging, Mt Cooroora in Pomona.
